How to Kill Cockroaches
Who am I?
As you May have already learned on my Ant Killer Website or my Spider Killer Website, in life, I’m a nobody. I’m a husband, and Father of four, trying to raise good kids and make an honest living. However, in my life I have been involved in some of the GROSSEST, MOST DISGUSTING cockroach infested stakeouts in America. I learned the cockroach killing trade while working as a licensed pest control technician in the deep south. Florida, the Carolinas, Tennessee. These hot, humid climates attract some of the nastiest cockroach cases in the history of pest control. Killing Cockroaches is a process. We used what we called “Integrated Pest Control Management” techniques to rid homes and business of cockroaches. LET ME EXPLAIN HOW TO KILL COCKROACHES.
BUT FIRST – HERE ARE THE TOP RATED AND REVIEWED COCKROACH KILLERS
NOW – A LESSON ON GETTING RID OF COACKROACHES
CLEAN YOUR HOUSE
#1: Clean your dirty old house
I would say that the Number 1 reason that you have cockroaches is because your home needs to be cleaned. I don’t mean to offend anyone by that statement. When I would be called on a cockroach job, I always expected THE WORST, when it came to cleanliness. In the KINDEST way possible I would help the home owner understand that the cockroaches will keep coming back if they have a food source (ie crumbs, leftovers, grease, slime, junk, caked on food).
YOUR PEST CONTROL COMPANY IS NOT A HOUSE CLEANING SERVICE. I was asked on numerous occasions Why are the cockroaches coming back? I would walk the home owner over to a kitchen drawer and pull it out. You could see German Roaches scatter. Than I would show them all the junk and food stains everywhere.
Now, let me be nice for a second. I would say at least 50% of the homes that I treated for cockroaches were Landlord/Tenant home situations. These are the most difficult, because the Landlord doesn’t want to pay for the necessary cleaning/upkeep and the Tenant doesn’t have the motivation to do it themselves, because it’s not their home. Wait, that Didn’t sound too nice.
FILL THE CRACKS AND CREVICES
#2: Seal the Entry Ways
First, find out where the cockroaches are coming in. Palmetto bugs (American Cockroaches) may look scary:
But they are not the most bothersome. I rarely saw, in fact never once saw, a large infestation of American cockroaches in a home. One at a time may make their way in and usually would be killed by the pest control barrier and be found lying on their back (like in the photo above). Generally, the infestations are with German Cockroaches:
German cockroaches travel in companies and are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get rid of. They make their way into the home through cracks, crevices, openings, unsealed areas, doorways, pipes, etc. etc. etc. Get Your home sealed. Caulk openings. Seal Doors. Hire a Contractor if necessary.
USE GELS AND BAIT STATIONS TO KILL COCKROACHES
#3: Avoid sprays to get rid of cockroaches
Cockroach colonies laugh at bug spray. Unless you intend on Covering your Home with a tent and fumigating the house:
You WILL NOT be able to get rid of cockroach colonies by taking around a can of bug spray and shooting what you see. You will get nowhere and you will extremely frustrated. You must start with Gels and Baits. Look at the list of cockroach gel and bait reviews that I have listed above. These are COMMERCIAL GRADE PRODUCTS. I didn’t know they sold this stuff on Amazon, but they do. I had to have a pest control license to carry some of these products around, but you can just buy them off the internet. SHHHH, maybe that’s a secret that pest control companies are keeping from the general population.
Set up the bait stations and use the gel in areas where the cockroaches live. Generally, this will be in the Kitchen, bathroom, garage, moist areas of the home. You will need to be patient and persistent. The first round of gel/bait stations will not rid your home of all the colonies. Continue on with the pest control techniques you learn here and you WILL GET THE COCKROACHES UNDER CONTROL.
TREAT THE EXTERIOR TO KEEP COCKROACHES OUT
#4: Create a Barrier around your home to keep Cockroaches out.
Any cockroach call I had, I always started out with a barrier spray around the home, before I started on clearing out the home. You have got to barrier the home to keep the cockroaches out. The most frustrating thing about cockroach management is eliminating indoor colonies and having them reenter from outside. Look at the reviews below for good cockroach barrier pesticides.
